Employers’ FAQ
Are there any wage-subsidy programs available to my company?
Yes. The program is called “Workplace Training”. This program (sponsored by the Alberta Gov’t) seeks to connect potential employers with potential employees, for the benefit of both:
You (the employer) get employees that are trained to do what you need them to do, in the way you want
You can receive wage subsidies to offset the costs of training (up to 70% of wages during the training period)
Both you and your employee(s)-in-training can receive support, and assistance in job maintenance
Your employee(s) can learn the skills needed to be in the field they want to work in
The employee(s) may be more satisfied, feeling capable and comfortable in what they’re doing, and hence also be more productive and loyal to your company.
Contact Us for more information, and to explore how your company could benefit from this program!
Where can I post job openings for my Strathmore and area company?
You can post positions on the WRCES Job Board or Service Canada’s Job Bank. You may also wish to contact the Strathmore Standard newspaper for advertising possibilities.
Can I post Casual or Temporary work on your Job Board?
Full time, Part Time, Casual or Temporary positions can be posted. Keep in mind that the greater the lead-time, the more likely you will have applicants to choose from. July and August are the easiest months to fill Casual or Temporary positions, due to the availability of those usually attending school.
I have difficulty finding and keeping employees. How can I improve this?
Wild Rose Career & Employment Services, along with Community Futures Wild Rose has an extensive Resource Library which includes publications specifically on Employee Attraction and Retention. You could also check out the Federal Government website on Human Resources Management www.employers.gc.ca.
What is Alberta's current Minimum Wage?
Alberta's current minimum wage is $8.80 per hour. It applies to all employees, regardless of age. Certain types of employment, such as Sales and Domestic work have special wages rules. Follow this Link to Employment Standards for more information.
